Creepypasta: Watching and Waiting
This is Hell. Hell is not a place, you have decided. It is a set of circumstances, and this seems to fit the bill just perfectly.
All your life, since your earliest memories or possibly even before, you have been victimized by a monster which you have taken to calling the Boogeyman, since that’s essentially what it is. It has been consistently present at the scenes of every miserable event in your life, grinning its grotesque Cheshire grin on those split-open lips.
No one ever saw it but you.
And now, here it is, ready to end you. You know because it has trapped you in this too-cramped room of the burning structure you just tried and failed miserably to rescue your friend Mark from. It had been present at the deaths of several of your other friends too, which is to say all of them. Mark had merely been lucky enough to last longer than the others.
But as soon as you saw the report on the local news that Mark’s apartment building was a raging inferno you knew this thing would be there.
The monster watched you arrive in your shabby two-door car and force your way into the building, all the while standing with the other onlookers and emergency personnel. No point trying to tell them they were an arm’s length from a freak of nature, if they couldn’t see it now they’d never believe you anyhow.
Somehow, without making a move to follow you it was already present when you went up to your friends’ floor and forced your way into his studio room. He was dead from smoke inhalation, and that thing was behind you, grinning just like always. Instead of observing passively as it always had prior, however, it stood in the blazing doorway of the room, effectively blocking your escape. You dimly noticed through the haze of smoke and cinders that it was reaching into the voluminous folds of its trench coat. As if to hammer home the point that it meant business this time, what it produced was a meat hook which had been sharpened to a vicious edge.
“Why now…” you ask, as if the monster will answer. To your astonishment, it does just that.
“My kind prefer not to strike until the perfect occasion. We are nothing if not predatory and patient. Very patient”it drawls in a gravelly voice like snapping rebar. “I wanted to come to you when I didn’t need to do anything to break you, when you were already in a pit of despair. It took some arranging, however. Did you really think your life’s unpleasant circumstances were wholly independent from the monster that stalked you in both night terrors and waking dreams? I wasn’t present at the scene of the crime for each of those horrific events by pure chance, or by a vicarious desire to see you miserable.”
It drags its reptilian tongue over the crudely sharpened edge of the meat hook before finishing its sentence almost as an afterthought.
“…You see, pfft…sorry, it’s hard for me to keep it together sometimes. It’s just so silly, all of it’s so funny.”
“How can you call this funny, you sick fuck?!” you scream. “If you’ve got something to say then say it!”
“Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I was at the scene of those accidents, suicides, and framings for obscene crimes, because I was the one who had been responsible for every one of them” the Boogeyman says with a mocking flourish. “And don’t think I’ll be done when I kill you. I’m very adept at misdirection and pinning blame. I’ve already arranged so that when they investigate this act of arson, all the blame will land squarely on you, a sicko who had killed his sole friend Mark in a murder-suicide. And won’t they feel pleased with themselves that they finally caught the serial killer responsible for the murders of all your other friends and family too!”

Introduction
Originally I was going to do this in one huge chunk, with proxies being just one of the many topics I covered on one huge "slave/minion" How To Horror, but I decided against it last minuet~ Now if you don't know what a proxy is think of the slave trade, like any one there has ever been. Introduction
I pulled this from my main DA as I believe it's time I had a clear out but I thought this is very important. I could talk endlessly about this topic in reviews and how to's but I think that this is still the best thing I've written regarding this topic.
